Photo Courtesy of Beulah Helton son of Joel and Mary Patrick Wilder Born in Whitley County, KY. He was a coal miner, started first with the railroad but coal offered more money. Had natural chestnut brown wavy hair-always looked combed.He had deep blue eyes. He was not as tall as his sons. Weighed about 145 lbs. Attended school in Laurel County, finished 8th grade, and could have taught school. Sampson loved to fish and hunt. He hurt his back in a mining accident at Black Star. He was caught between a rolling coal car and the side of the mine. Died later of infection in 1924. Jenny Wilder
